First Hunter Field Target Competition for the 2009 season

Permalink 05/14/09 17:07, by stephanie, Categories: Announcements

Fellow NAGS

Yesterday the NAGS held their first Hunter Field Target Competition for the 2009 season. A lot of work went into getting the course cleaned up. There was a lot of overgrowth, tree limbs (Big) and deep grass that had to be cleared. It was a team effort for sure. I would like to thank Mike Springbett (Our Winner), Gale Husk and Clint “The Iceman” Wilson for the hard work they put into getting the course in great shape. I also have to mention that Gale Husk went above and beyond for the club. With his time, effort and his own money he built platforms to hang on the side of 5 trees so we could place knock down targets on them. This really did add to the fun of the shoot. These targets definitely were not gimme shots as they were set up at yardages from 35 to 47 yards.

When Clint and I arrived at the Goat Ranch, Mike and Gale were just finishing up hanging the targets on the five trees. We finished setting up targets and the course was ready to go..

Just as we were getting ready to start the shoot, a gentleman walked up and asked if we were the NAGS. Introductions were made and the club now has a new member. Everyone please welcome out newest club member, Warren Harbin.

Warren did not bring an airgun with him but Gale set him up real fast with a Gamo CFX .177. Warren is a real competitor. Having never shot Field Target before didn’t hold him back from wanting to compete.

Glenn and Gale both ended up going with their backup guns at the halfway mark in the match. Glenn started off shooting a beautiful Webley Xocet with peep sights and switched to his Rapid MFR .177.. Gale also started the match with a springer and switched to his Whisper .177 at the half way point. It should be mentioned that both of these fellows should have started with their back up guns.. I think their scores would have been a lot higher if they had. I personally think that the both of them didn’t take in enough caffeine prior to the shoot and just were not thinking straight.

The Iceman did not bring his go to gun this time as he wanted to shoot my AirArms S400 w/Custom Zebra wood stock and left his winning gun HW100T .177 at home.. Clint “The Iceman” is always a treat and the one to beat.. With that said he did come in 3rd place.

Results for the first shoot of the season – May 9th 2009.

1. Mike Springbett – AAS410 .22 – Leapers 8x32x56 32/40
2. Will Wilson – Korick EV-2 – Nikko Stirling 10x50x60 31/40
3. Clint Wilson _ AA S400 – Nikko Stirling 10x50x60 28/40
4. Glenn Shrank – Webley Xocet and Rapid MFR .177 23/40
5. Warren Harbin – Gamo CFX .177 21/40
6. Gale Husk – Springer and Whisper .177 21/40

Everyone had a great time shooting on the newly designed course. We have to count this shoot as a warm up for the rest of the season.

I apologize for no photos this time. A darn $1000.00 camera decided to act up on me at the shoot.

Once again I would like to welcome Warren to the club..

Just a note to let everyone know that the first fun shoot of the season will be at the Goat Ranch June 20th 2009.. More on that to follow..

NAGS April Shoot

Permalink 04/26/09 09:12, by admin, Categories: Announcements

Hello fellow NAGS

The first thing I thought of when I woke up yesterday put me in panic mode. I had forgotten to take my air tank to the dive shop on Friday. No air means no shooting for team Wilson. So it was get all of our gear together and load up the truck, off to the dive shop and still make it to the shoot on time. Hurry hurry hurry is not my style. Although Clint and I did make it to the shoot on time.

Gale and Jeremy were already at "City NAGS" working hard setting up the 25 and 50 yd benchrest lanes. A lot of time and effort goes into getting our indoor shooting building ready for a shoot. I want to thank Gale and Jeremy for the all that they do for the club.. Without their efforts the shoot would not go on.

Mike had told me earlier in the week that he had been working on a project for the club and that Glenn would be bringing this project to the shoot. All I knew was that this project had something to do with our 25 yd Springer class competition. Glenn soon walked in carrying a large white package and the rest of his gear and we were waiting with anticipation to see just what was in the package. What a surprise we had when the package was unwrapped. Mike had built a new traveling trophy out of a few odds and ends that looks really great. I have attached a photo of the new trophy for you to take a look at..

As we were getting ready to start shooting I realized I had left the hose assembly for my air tank at home and that meant no shooting for team Wilson.. No air, no shoot !! Clint and I were more than disappointed to say the least. Now we only had three shooters for the day's competition and we were wondering if we should go ahead with the competition or not. Gale soon spoke up and stated that we should just turn the shoot into our own little fun shoot and just work on getting our guns sighted in and do a little of shooting the breeze. Everyone agreed and that is just what we did.

The day was not at a loss though. We had been at City NAGS for about an hour when a fellow walked in asking if we shoot airguns. This nice gentleman introduced himself as Allen Krabbenhoft. I then realized that Allen was the newest member to join NAGS a couple of weeks ago. We exchanged some pleasantries, passed on some good information about the club and what is going on this summer season. Allen soon had his Diana 100 out of the case and was shooting the 50 yd lane and you could see that he was enjoying himself.. Allen is going to fit in just fine and I am sure he will be an asset to the club. Welcome aboard Allen.

Glenn broke out his Rapid MFR and started showing off this fine looking rifle. The MFR has a new custom barrel shroud and air stripper. This has to be the quietest airgun I have ever shot. We all took our turn at testing out the gun and I think that Glenn may just have a gun that he will keep for more than a couple of months.. Does Glenn finally have the gun to beat all guns..? Only time will tell.

There is not very much to report on from Yesterdays shoot so I will just let everyone know that our next shoot will be May 9th. We will be moving back out to the Goat Ranch. We will be offering up our Hunter class Field Target competition, the 25 and 50 yd benchrest competition. The shoot will have a start time of 10:00 AM..

Our initial date for the clubs first fun shoot is up in the air for the moment. Our original date of May 23rd falls on Memorial Day weekend and there are too many people that have plans for that weekend. I will be getting with Mike to determine what will work for him and when we come up with a date I will send out an email advising everyone of the new date. I could also use some input from the club members as to just what they would like for me to offer at the fun shoot. If there is anything you would like to mention please get in contact with me and I will see if I can make it happen.

I will be sending out more information on the May 9th shoot in the near future.. Please come out and support the NAGS for our summer kick off shoot.

Here are few photos of the shoot

NAGS January 10th, 2009 25 and 50 yd Benchrest competition

Permalink 01/11/09 12:40, by stephanie, Categories: Announcements

The day started off with having to put the truck into 4 wheel drive just to get out of the residential streets here in town. Clint, Cassie and I being 15 minutes early to the shoot were thinking we would be the first to arrive. Not so. A couple of the club members had beaten us to “City NAGS”, what we now call our indoor shooting facility.
Within 15 minutes the other shooters were showing up and shooting tables and targets/lights were being set up. We had a good turnout of 8 shooters counting a new junior shooter, Andrew.

I showed up with my new Korick EV-2 and Nikko Stirling 10x50x50N with expectations to pull off a double win with the 25 and 50 yd benchrest. Well my plan did didn’t work out that way. Clint was sporting a new T-36 target scope done in silver and that seemed to draw as much attention as the EV-2. Glenn was soon to be pulling out the Rapid MFR he recently acquired and that would soon prove to be the downfall of all the other shooters’ hopes of taking home the traveling trophy.

There were no springers in today’s competition so we all were shooting in open class.

Even though there were only 8 shooters, it seems as if we were just as concerned about talking airguns as we were shooting as the shoot lasted four hours before we could pack up and go home. Everyone had a good time for sure and having a new junior shooter coming into the club it made for a good day for sure.

Glenn Shrank pulled off the double win and now has the traveling trophy to keep until the next shoot scheduled for February 14, 2009 at 12:30 PM

The NAGS December 25 yd and 50 yd indoor benchrest

Permalink 12/14/08 11:16, by stephanie, Categories: Announcements

With the shoot today scheduled for 12.30PM I was able to sleep in a little later. Clint and I had the truck loaded up in no time and were headed for our new indoor shooting digs. We were unloaded in quick fast time and the rest of the shooters were arriving and following suit. We had a total of 16 show up for today’s shoot and 11 of them were participants.

With shooting benches scattered around we drew numbers to see what shooting order we would be going in for the 25 and 50 yd benchrest. We have enough room for 2 shooting benches on both the 25 and 50 lanes and we were ready to get started.

Darry, our club treasurer happened to walk in about now and presented the club with a traveling trophy. The new trophy will be awarded to the winner of each 50 yd benchrest shoot. It was an exciting shoot off. We only had 1 junior shooter today and the young man’s name is Eric Nielsen. Glad to see you there Eric.

I would also like to thank our host Jeremy for setting up such a great course for the club. A lot of drama unfolded today to see who could unseat the current club champ. The “Ice Man” The following tells the whole
